This website contains Sea Stories and a registry of current sailors and Ike alumni. Both the Sea Stories page and the registry have facilities for entering your own story/data - so please submit one (or several).

You'll no doubt notice a poverty of graphics and other embellishments on this website - I'm counting on the lyrical beauty of the sea stories you submit to more than make up for these shortcomings.

Ike Bites

Why is this website named Ike Bites?

"Ike Bites" is a phrase coined early in CVN-69's history by some annonymous sailor, probably out of frustration for a particular situation he found himself in. This simple two word phrase quickly spread to become the mantra of the Nuke/Engineering world and probably a good number topside sailors as well. IKE BITES was inscribed, carved, burned in, and painted in every engineering/Reactor space as well as the berthing compartments and offices. On close out inspections of the Reactor Compartment, the Reactor Officer would specificaly inspect the bottom of the pressurizer vessel (a favorite target) for these offending words.
As time wore on, the phrase "Ike Bites" has taken on a more amorphous meaning encompassing anything from raging fury to mild irritation. Personaly, my distaste for IKE has disipated long ago, and the phrase "Ike Bites" merely serves to rekindle many memories of the fun times and good friends I made aboard Ike.

• Contain URLs that are either advertising or in all probability of no damn interest to the general readership.

• Just about anything else IS ENCOURAGED
