the Farrah Fawcett car Part 1

Department:Rx
Author:Charlie
Era:1982
Date:03/28/05

In 1981, I traded my 72 Pinto that was down to 3 cylinders for a 76 Mustang Cobra II. It was white with blue trim like the one Farrah drove on Charlie's Angels except hers was a wimpy 4 cylinder while mine was a mighty V-8. I had a lot of fun with that car. Once, I was doing about 100 down I- 564 and fell victim to a speed trap. Fotunately, I had slowed to 70 when I got clocked and the cops weren't giving breathalizers. Poor Shoe got stopped in his Charger that night and lost his license. After the 82 Med, Pete R and I found a house for us to live in at the south end of Va Beach. We had been calling real estate agents from John Paul's apartment and went to check the place out. After signing the lease, we left the neighborhood (Red Wing) and pulled up at a stop sign. Just then, some guys in front of us decided to back up into our road to turn around. They ended up raking their quarterpanel across my front bumper, really pissing me off in the process!

EAT ME

During the IO We were at quarters one morning... I don't know what exactly kicked this whole incident off... But I think one of the Khakis was talking about the Navy not being "just a job" to which Will replied, "Yeah, it's a Fuck job". Senior Chief Colpus came over to talk to him about this - to which Will used the rebuttal, "Eat Me". In a fit of anger, Colpus shoved Will to the floor. As it turned out, this was a stroke of luck, as Will could easily have been written up for this. Instead, Will wrote Colpus up! Next day at quarters, it was great seeing Colpus appologize. Also great having seen an MM2 tell a Senior Chief to "Eat Me" and get away with it.

After those dudes backed into me, we exchanged info and went our separate ways (no cell phones to call the cops back then). I found out later their car was a stolen car and the driver's license was bogus, so I was SOL. Anyway, Pete and I headed off to the Zodiac and closed it down. We had to go back to the Ike because the house didn't have utilities yet, and Pete passed out on the way. Unfortunately, so did I. I was on I-564 headed for a guard rail when Pete woke up screaming (I guess the Good Lord was looking out for us). I swerved at the last minute and thought we had made it unscathed. After we got on the base, I saw 3 guardrail stripes down my rear quarterpanel, which a can of spray paint more or less fixed, sort of. That car took many more beatings over the next 2 years until I got out. I ended up trading it for a new Cougar in 84, which I drove until I sold it to my brother-in-law a couple of months ago.

Sugar Mtn

I was going to get to Sugar Mtn sooner or later. Cal and I made the first expedition in the El Camino before it became a yard ornament. We met up with Cal's brother and his friend and their wives. That was the most subdued trip up there, but lots of fun. We made many more trips with the rest of the Noodles, Jim Baquet, Jim Lynch, Tim Hallman, Bob Fisher, etc. Once we were in the back of the El Camino going up there and broke the neck off our bottle of JD. Not to let it go to waste, we just carefully drank from it. One trip, we all just passed out around the fire, causing Jim Lynch to dub it the "Sugar Mtn Massacree". Remember when I ran for steaks back in town and brought back Steak-ums? Or when Cal fell off the porch at the general store? Remember the locals, Mike the draft-dodger and brain damaged Casey and Uncle Harvey? Wags went up there recently and said it's all built up now. Like the Piano Bar, our heritage has been ruined by "progress".

IAFJ

I don't know if Will created that slogan the day he did battle with the "Egg with Legs", but it sure became a battle cry for us Nukes. I don't know how many times IAFJ was scribed on the IX's along with the IB's, FTN's, and pictures of Zippy Pinhead. It's a wonder I had any room left to make my infamous inscription.

Hot Time in Naples Part 1

Author:Larry
Era:1982

One night in Naples, Jim Bacquet and I were walking down the street when we passed by a car with two pretty women inside. They smiled at us and Jim stuck his head in the car window. Next thing I know Jim and me are in the back seat of the Fiat and heading to a pizza joint then a disco. Jim’s knowledge of French and my Spanish allowed us to carry on a very basic conversation. Jim paired off with one woman and I paired off with Mary.

After dancing, the girls took us up to a mountaintop and had their way with us. I still remembering trying to pretend I didn’t have any legs as Mary and I copulated in the back of the smallest Fiat ever made. During the afterglow, the girls decided they were going to leave us on the top of the mountain and drive off to town. They had obviously had their fill (literally) of sailors. A few por favors got us a ride back to town. I was trying to get Mary’s phone number but the woman up front kept saying “NO.” I think she was afraid her husband would find out. I never saw Mary again and I wonder to this day if there might be a Dog Dart and Obi Putt wandering Italy.

"Hey, Larry...are you certain that was female?"

I spent 2 years on IKE from 1982-1984, I have many fond memories (the friends I made)and also some not so fond ones (endless nights out to sea). I am very glad I had the opportunity to see the liberty ports we visited on our cruises. I would have never seen these ports as a civilian. The stories I could tell about our times underway, some of these stories might offend some people so I wont go into detail. I believe that the people I encountered onboard IKE will always hold a special place in my heart. Looking back at the tough times we suffered (Libya, The Marine Barracks Bombing in Beirut) we are very lucky that we were not in the middle of an actual war like our brothers and sisters onboard IKE are in now. Bravo Zulu to all those who can share our stories and keep the memory alive.

New Sea Story Section

I agree with the previous poster's sentiment... I don't believe IKE's crew is currently in much danger - one of the benefits of having been stationed aboard a CVN... But there certainly are people over there (not just GI's but Iraqi civilians) who are enduring a hell that makes our petty grievances look very lame....

I've added a new section to the Sea Stories Page (IKE Sagas) I was inspired by LP ... his story was too meaty to just insert in this page. - I might move other stories out of here and over there - trouble is - most of the episodes happpened when I was drunk/stoned - so I can't remember all of the details.
