Rumble at the Shillelagh, part 2

Pete was bleeding like a stuck pig and we were trying to get it stopped when Walt came in and said Mouthy was waiting for Pete in the parking lot. Pete took off and proceeded to beat the crap out of Mouthy. After a while, we pulled Pete off of him and noticed there were some cops across the road watching the whole thing. Then we noticed Major Mike had left and we had 6 of us and only my Mustang to ride in. We had to put 2 in the hatchback area with the hatch open. I slowly pulled away, just knowing the cops would pull me over as soon as we left the parking lot. For some reason, the cops just stayed there. I guess they just didn't feel like dealing with a bunch of drunken squids that night.

We had a guy in Reactor department -- Ed Andreoli, who had been in the army prior to joining the Navy. His nickname was, what else?

Sergeant Shipmate!!

Funny reading the Shipmate story....I just passed Scott Bitner in the hallway here at Surry Power Station and we greeted each other as we usually do here..."Howdy, Shipmate"
Scott was the only MM1 to make EWS before becoming a chief
( that I ever knew) and boy did they ever screw him over. So, he was a great source for signitures.

Hey Bisonhead, you remember Scotty don't you!

Oh yeah! I remember him well. On last day of Med 84-85 we took the tops off of all the tables in the lounge, covered the stumps in mattresses, and had the biggest toilet paper and playing card fight in Rx berthing history. I felt it was ok to participate because if some khaki-nazi caught us I knew it would be his ass being the senior 1st class. But it was still a blast trashing berthing.

PPWS and other stuff

I turned over RM21 to Scott Bitner after he came to the Ike after being on the Vinson. We were in Nuke School Class 7905 together, and I was kind of surprised to see he had re-upped. Bill Schmeelcke doing 27 years was a real surprise. About Scott being an MM1 PPWS, that was pretty common until we got a glut of Chiefs. Bill Shroyer even qualified as an MM2, and I think Pete Ryan did, too. Right after I qualified CRS, Chief Barney Scott gave me a PPWS qual card, which promptly hit the trash. I told him I wasn't about to help his rotation, I'd rather be on 4&8's with the rest of the blueshirts. In reality, I've always been a slug that prefers to be out in the plant. I still never bothered to nor intend to get an RO license at the VC Summer Plant either. I just enjoy hot environments, I guess.

PPWS

Hey they made anyone PPWS and it wasnt hard at all, I was the first one to do it as an MM2 and when they made me the Group Sup I got "Frocked to MM1" but so did a bunch of other guys including Pete wentworth, will p., bill smeelcke along with others. Bill was the one that told me about this website and I have been enjoying reading about some of the misadventures of that time period. I remember mark jacobs barbecuing his uniform when he got out at the house pete, will p. and myself rented together. Will rode my motorcycle around in the rain naked one time and also used to bring this gigantic fat chick back to the house "Kay?" to fuck. I also remember the trailer park where pete r. was screwing some welfare sleeze refered to affectionately as the "Snag" due to her dental plan. Hey pete, due you still tear the filters off of cigarettes when you cant find any chew? Most of us have gotten a lot older and as much as we hated IKE back then do remember those days with fondness.

Mombo's motorbike

I remember that motorcycle. We also used to ride it around in the house - And I don't think we were ever able to clean up the skid marks on the floor in Jake's room.

We took Mombo's bike to a dirtbike course at the Naval Air Station (sans helmets). I went over a jump (the first ever in my life) and came down on my head - took the doctor 17 stiches to sew my ear back on.

I went home and went to bed. When I got up to take one of the pain killers the dr. had given me - I found my roommates (Mombo, Will, Jake) had helped themselves to them all while I was sleeping! - thanks guys...

Virgin Islands

When IKE pulled into the VI, there were loads of hookers who had been imported from Puerto Rico especially for our visit (Maybe there's a Hooker's Newsletter than lists ship movement?)
The hookers in one bar were so committed to increasing their throughput that they would shove half naked squids into the hallway to finish dressing while they brought a new guy in. It was great being in the bar and watching these guys huriedly getting dressed.
In the bar, there was a men's and women's head separated by a cinderblock wall. The wall had several blocks missing at the bottom - and some guys (Major Mike comes to mind) would urinate through these holes into the ladies room - setting off shrieks followed by retribution as the hookers would swarm into the men's room to attack the perpetrator.

Diversity awareness

As part of the "diversity awareness initiative" at my company (Caterpillar Inc.) we have a themed lunch every month or so featuring food from a different country. Thus far, we've had Irish (God-awful stuff!), Mexican, etc.
This month the country is Morocco.

From our port visit in Tangiers, the only thing I remember eating in Morocco were chunks of hash that the street vendors were trying to sell us.

I think I'll trot down to HR and see if they'll consider adding that to the menu as an authentic Moroccan dish.

I can happily say that my watch time on IKE went event free; no incidents at all, thank god!

I spoke to Kevin Moore last year, and he never told me about the $2,000,000 mistake.

Wait til I call him tonight.

:)
