SAILBOAT & FREIGHTER
TWO STORYS FINALLY MADE ME POST !! I WAS WORKING ON THE FLIGHT DECK REPAIRING ONE OF THE AESS STATIONS ON THE PORT SIDE AND I REMEMBER SEEING THE SAILBOAT MAST BOBBING UP AND DOWN AND PEOPLE YELLING. I BELELVE WE SPLIT THE BOAT IN TWO. IT WAS TOO FUNNY AND HARD TO BELIEVE WITH ALL THAT TECHNOLOGY. BUT IT WAS VERY FOGGY THAT NIGHT. ABOUT THE SPANISH TANKER, I WAS MANNING THE RAILS ON THE STARBOARD SIDE AND VIEWED THE MIGHTY IKE CRASHING. ITS STILL HARD TO BELIEVE THE SHIP LISTED AS MUCH AS IT DID. ANYONE REMEMBER THE TRIP TO VENEZULA ? WHEN WE DROPPED THE ANCHOR ON THE GREEN PEACE BOAT AND SUNK IT ? I WAS MANNING ONE OF THE MANY FIRE HOSES SPRAYING THEM OFF IN THE LITTLE KODIAK BOATS. GOOD TIME'S !!! |
fight
I registered for this yesterday, and looking through the pictures, i saw one of Elmo. It reminded me of the night he and I got in a fight. we were in Naples (I think) and had spent the day getting hammered at the No.1 Piano Bar. Standing in the interminable line to get back to where we really didn't want to be (the ship), i guess i called him "Elmo, the Homo" one too many times. He popped me and we got into it. Those of you who may have been with us broke it up before the SP arrived and "no on knew nothin'". |
Good times in Italy and Va. Beach
BROTHER JOE!! What's up?? Good to see you on here man! I remember when you and Elmo came back after that fight (which must have sobered both of you right up), think I had the duty. Anyway, I remember holding a few guys' heads over the trash cans so they didn't puke all over Rx Berthing that night...and a lot of nights, now that I think about it...some of the otherwise most straight-laced guys were the worst. I'll never forget that party you and Marla threw one night; about 2 am I was ready to go back and hit the rack...but you and Timmy the P. begged me to stay so I could drive everyone in the next morning. Boy, were you guys a sorry sight, stumbling up the gangway...Hope this doesn't bring back too many "painful" memories...ha ha. |
'83 Med
Someone mentioned the '83 Med trip a few pages ago...I remember it. That trip set the record for continuous time at sea (second only to the IO) and least ports visited - that sucks! Then, after our sojourn off the coast of Lebanon, we pulled into beautiful drunken Napoli for what, 3 or so days, then those bastards bombed the Marine barracks and off we went! Remember the swim call that was interrupted by sharks? I stood more Load Dispatcher watches that trip than I care to think about. Then, to top it all off, we were late getting relieved because of the invasion of Grenada. The '82 and '85 Meds were a lot better, and going to West Pac is even more fun. Filipinas and Thai women are the secret of eternal happiness... |
Hey Marky Mark, if you're still reading this, we REALLY need to set up a website like this for the Chuck-boat...I'll be back home in mid-April or so. Also, "the dirty deed is done," and I'm living @ my sister's place in Florida for now, think you know what I mean... |
memories
I was going to start with one thing and remembered another. I remember when we had some midshipmen living w/us in berthing and pete ryan (peter f***king ryan)took his towel and threw it in the face of one midi and said "i just beat off in this, want it?" i thought the kid was going to die! anyhow, since a lot of us were nubs when the noodles were in full swing we could just look in awe at their antics. after they left, some of us decided that the department needed that kind of attitude and formed what we called the mutants: tim palange, mike seidler(seedy),timmy putnam (puppy),john archer, john lester "rooster" fenton, warren chambers (DEB), jim bush, mike mulka (T.I.M.), bisonhead and probably a bunch i'm forgetting. we tried, as best we could, to carry on the proud tradition of the noodles. i just found our "book" from '85, i'll scan some stuff and submit it. |
Joe - Do you still have your old "steaming jacket"? Funny what you remember about people... |
