IKE's crew were designated Blue Noses by virtue of crossing into the Arctic Circle. - Here's the card they gave us.

I have no idea what one had to do to earn this certificate nor who granted it to me. - But do you notice that on this page I have posted the lame "toy" certificates I received rather than ones I actualy should have been proud about (ie. my ESWS, Hon. Dischard, promotions, etc.)

First day of issue Dwight D Eisenhower stamp.

Here is my International Driving Permit. If you're a current IKE sailor about to be deployed on a MED Cruise, I strongly recommend picking up one of these permits (I think I got it at an "AAA" office). - At many of our liberty calls, the first thing I'd do is rent a car for our entire port call. It's great fun driving overseas, especially 3rd world countries where the driving customs are very foreign to us. You can drive like a mad man over there and fit in completely. The best part about it is that if you do get stopped - the worst they'll do to you is flog you.. BUT NO POINTS GET PUT ON YOUR DRIVING RECORD!!!
Towards the end, IKE started enforcing a "no driving" policy which may be in effect now - but once you're on the beach, they really don't have to know...

My Motorcycle safety card which permitted me to get a base sticker for my bike.

Newspaper article from Aug 4, 1983 - The Harrisburg Patriot. Moammar Khadafy threatened to sink the IKE if we were to sail into the Gulf of Sidra (which he claimed as Libya's territorial waters) - Now Khadafy is a friend of the USA... go figure...

Menu snipped out of the Ike Bulletin - I especially like the fried gizzards for dinner - YUMMY! - I think my all time favorite meal aboard IKE was cold hot dogs and cold mashed potatoes.

Do you regret having gotten out of the USN?
Here's the pay chart to jolt you back to reality...
When I got out, I was an E-6 over 4.. that put my monthly income at: $846.60 - which made for an annual salary of about $10,000 !

My Shellback card - for crossing the equator.

Notice that the certificate says "Legaly Consumed 2 Beers"...
I can guarantee a lot more alcohol than just those 2 beers was consumed on that cruise.
