In December 1983 - IKE rented the Convention Center/Civic Center downtown Norfolk.
This was for our Christmas party - but since we have to be sensitive to all religions, it was called the IKE-Gala. Since the dress code was suit and tie, several of us went to Goodwill to pick up the most outlandish suits conceivable. Here are 4 of us, Major Mike, Me, Charlie, Will.

We picked these costumes as a prank... Can you imagine our shock when the CO shows up dressed every bit as outlandish as we! - Don't put that down to playfulness on his part - He really didn't have a clue that a maroon plaid leisure suit never has nor will it ever be "in style"

We closed the party down. and it was amazing to see how efficient the shore patrol was in rounding up the drunks and carting them back to the ship. - They dragged all the unconscious sailors to one side and then rolled them into table cloths to carry them back to the bus.
