Not much to say about the Shellback initiation - by some twist of Navy logic, hazing is prohibitted, but wide scale abuse, violence, and degradation was not only sanctioned by the command but encouraged... In fact, if one wanted not to participate in the ceremony, one had to submit a request chit, and there were indications that some sort of entry would be made in your personel record!
