The Train Trip from Sorrento
- LP

One beautiful morning Jim Bacquet and I decided to take a trip to Sorrento.  Upon arrival, we did all the normal touristy stuff.  Both of us bought the wooden music boxes that Sorrento is famous for.  Later we wandered around town and bumped into Mombo and Jacobs.  I beat Jacobs in arm wrestling, an amazing stunt on my part.  Next, we encountered Massive Ed S____ and I think John Brochu.  We were sitting in an outdoor café drinking liter-sized beers when Ed decided to steal some linen from a vendor and take off running.  The Italians chased him down and took him to the police.  John went to the station and told the cops that Ed was insane and they released him.  Most of the rest of the day has disappeared with the brain cells that the memories used to occupy.  I vaguely remember being in a bar and Jim jumping out a second story window and swinging through the trees like a monkey.

There were 12 nukes onboard the train when it departed Sorrento.  Most of us stopped by a liquor store that was conveniently located next to the train station and both Jim and I picked up a bottle of wine.  As soon as we departed the station, Mombo and the rest of us claimed the car we were riding in as sovereign territory of the USA. The terrified Italians took flight to the other cars in the train.

Mombo proceeded to single handedly destroy the car.  I remember him ripping a bench seat from its foundation and throwing the seat a few feet down the aisle.

We were singing songs and having a grand time.  Two smart nukes left the train at a station before Naples.  When the rest of us arrived at Naples, the cops and shore patrol were waiting for us.  They handcuffed Jim and me together.  I still remember us carrying our paper sacks full of souvenirs as the Shore Patrol led us into the Paddy Wagon.  All of us were handcuffed except Mombo and Jacobs.  Mombo put up resistance and the shore patrol didn’t want to mess with him, so they let him ride without handcuffs.

When we arrived at Shore Patrol headquarters they made the senior First Class, Mombo, write up a statement and then they released us back to the ship.  I heard the next day Captain Clexton wanted to know who the illiterate First Class was that wrote the statement—Clexton couldn’t read a word the drunken Mombo had written.
